Finish out zone tournament with one win
YOUNGSVILLE, La – The World Series aspirations came to a crashing halt for the Baytown Baseball Association’s PONY team as it was soundly beaten, 15-1, by Stealth, Texas in a PONY 14 South Zone elimination game in Youngsville, Louisiana on Friday afternoon,
The Baytown boys finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.
Stealth broke the game open with a 6-run, third inning to increase its lead to 9-0 before Baytown got on the board with its lone run in the bottom half of the frame.
Stealth, which finished with 21 hits, ended the game in the fifth inning, allowing only three Baytown hits.
“They were a select team,” Baytown manager John Ward said of Stealth. “It was one of those games when they hit it fell perfectly for them. When we fell behind, we started making errors and with the heat and everything, it got the best of us.
“Stealth was a good group. They played a good game and there are no excuses.”
Samuel Ibarra, Alex Wallace and John Ward all recorded one hit for Baytown.
“It was fun, and it had its ups and downs,” manager Ward said. “We played some good and bad ball, but (the players) learned a lot and made some amazing memories. They created bonds that will probably last a long time.
“They were upset with how it ended, but they enjoyed the experience. We look forward to coming back next year. We know what to expect now and we will get next year’s team ready for it.”
The Baytown Baseball Association’s fall ball season is looking for sign ups for two leagues featuring ages 9-11 and 11-14.
