The Power Five is the new Baytown Sun poll that ranks all teams playing currently. Once their season ends, a team’s spot on the poll will be vacated the following week.

We begin the Power Five with a first top five featuring the initial No. 1 team – The Crosby boys basketball team.

1. Crosby boys basketball: The Cougars are undefeated in District 22-5A heading into two more games this week with five remaining.

The Cougars have a young but experienced squad and their guard play has played a big role this winter. Next: 7 p.m. tonight at Galveston Ball.

2. GCM girls soccer: What a start for the Lady Patriots (12-0-1) who will aim to improve their 2-0 district record with two litmus tests this week.

A mix of young and old on the roster has created a surprisingly strong dynamic. Next: 7 p.m. tonight vs. Texas City.

3. Barbers Hill girls basketball: They keep rolling at 29-4, but admittedly the Lady Eagles district offers little resistance.

The key now is to find a way to remain edgy when the postseason arrives. Next: 7 tonight at Vidor.

4. BCA boys basketball: Quietly, the defending state champs are in the hunt for another TAPPS district title. Next: 7 p.m. tonight vs. Spring Founders.

5. Lee College men’s basketball: Finding their way into the thick of the Region XIV playoff race.Next: 7 p.m. tonight at Jacksonville College.
