The Sterling High team tennis squad ran into a roadblock and were defeated 16-3 at Clear Falls on Monday

Recording wins for Sterling (1-2) were Abby Vincent and Caroline Wells at No. 1 girls doubles (6-1, 6-0), No. 4 girls singles Graceanne Carsey (6-1, 6-1) and No. 5 girls singles player, Wells, 6-2, 6-2.

“Overall it was an extremely competitive match,” Sterling head coach John Tremmel said. “Even though the score didn’t resemble that, a lot of matches were close. I had to move all my boys up two spots. It put them at the top and they stepped up and gained much needed experience that will serve them well down the road when Dave Daymiel and Ryan Jones are back in action.”

Jones and Daymiel are expected to play No. 1 doubles after sitting out on Monday.

Tremmel noted that at least five matches could have gone either way.

Sterling will next play at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Barbers Hill.
