Sterling, Robert E. Lee and Barbers Hill high school tennis players made some strong impressions this past weekend at tournaments in Pasadena and Coppell.

For REL, seniors Kristian Garza and Michelle Ortega advanced to the semifinals of the Pasadena Tournament B mixed doubles field.

“This is their best finish so far this season and hopefully they can build on this success,” REL head coach Brandon Funderberg said.

Also at Pasadena, Barbers Hill brought home plenty of hardware as Sydney Underwood and London King teamed up for an A girls doubles title and Amy Buntin and Krissa Wright did the same on the B flight.

Kaysen Barker and Lindsey DelAngel took second in B mixed doubles.

At Coppell, Sterling’s Caroline Wells, Graceanne Carsey went 3-2 in B singles, Priya Desai/Alaina Hafer went 2-3 in doubles.

Ryan Jones and Brian Ward were sixth in A doubles and Sakshi Singh won the girls single consolation with a 3-2 record.

“This was a great tournament to compete in this early in the season,” Sterling head coach John Tremmel said. “It gave a good opportunity to work on technique and build toward the district tournament.”
