Progress has been made in the first year of the Shannon Carter tenure as the Goose Creek Memorial head football coach.
Now Carter wants to see his seniors and the whole program benefit from a strong finish as they travel to Humble to take on Kingwood Park at 7 p.m. tonight.
The Patriots (3-6, 2-4) saw their playoff hopes crushed two weeks ago in a loss at Galena Park and officially ended last week against New Caney, but Carter said his team is taking a proactive approach heading into its final game.
“For our seniors it’s their last chance to play a high school football game,” Carter said. “When I came in I wanted to capture the senior class. We have meshed very well and I want to send them out right. That’s been our motivation all week.
“We are playing a formidable opponent and hopefully we will play our best game this year and that will be enough to get us the victory.”
Kingwood Park (5-4, 4-2) is going to be a stern challenge for GCM.
“They are a good solid program and played some good football at the right time,” Carter said. “They don’t beat themselves.”
Carter said this last week of practice has gone well.
“We’ve been a lot more competitive,” Carter said. “They have a lot of fight in them. We want to finish this thing right.”
