Faces two potential elimination games today
The Baytown Baseball Association PONY baseball team kept its World Series hopes alive Thursday.
Baytown racked up 16 hits, committed no errors and followed up a sublime 19 stolen bases in its opening loss with a modest two in a 7-2 win over San Benito in a PONY 14 South Zone elimination game in Youngsville, Louisiana.
Next, the squad will play another elimination game at noon today against Stealth, Texas.
A win would move Baytown into the top four of the bracket and a second game 4 p.m.
The bracket winner plays for the zone title and a spot in the World Series on Monday.
Baytown also benefited from a strong performance from starting pitcher Andrew Estrada who went the full seven innings, allowed just five hits, struck out six and walked one San Benito batter to claim the win.
Baytown scored in the first, second and fourth innings to lead 4-2 and then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth frame to pull away for the win.
Isaias Cueves and Thomas Pantoja each finished with three hits apiece to fuel the offensive attack for Baytown who also got two RBI each from Cuevas and Clifford Gammel. Baytown finished with five extra-base hits.
