Lee volleyball off to Florida on Friday

It was an ideal start to the volleyball season for the Lee College Lady Rebels.

The Lee squad followed up two wins at the Vernon College Classic on day one with two more on Saturday to wrap up a 4-0 weekend to tip off the new campaign.

The Lady Rebels wrapped up the tournament with a 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19) win over Butler Community College and a 3-1 (20-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-15) victory over Dodge City Community College, both out of Kansas.

Kennidee Willis led Lee with 27 kills in the Butler win.

“I thought we did a great job adjusting after the first set to come back and win the next three sets,” Lee head coach Danielle Essix said of the win against Butler. “We’re starting to play well together and you can tell the girls feel more comfortable. I think a key for us is our ability to be in system all weekend.”

The Lady Rebels play at 9 a.m. Friday in Florida at the Pensacola State College tournament.  They will play Gadsden State College in the first of four matches.
