Anahuac bass-fishing team fares well at tourney

The first Texas High School Bass Association tournament of the 2019-20 bass fishing season was held on Lake Somerville.

The Anahuac Anglers from Anahuac High School competed with three teams in the tournament that had a total of 133 teams. Captain Scott Goodman and team members Sebastian Contreras and Alex Sanchez weighed in one bass at 1.97 pounds for 421 points, placing 80th.  Captain George Hisler and team members Braden Lanferman and Jaime Granger weighed in two bass at 3.99 pounds for 447 points, placed 54th.  Captain Bud Burney and team members Hudson Richards and Joel McNeely weighed in five bass at 9.16lbs for 476 points, placing 25th.

“The students very much enjoyed the time spent on the water and the fellowship,” said Hisler.

The next tournament will be held on Lake Livingston Oct. 19, and a live video of the weigh-in will be posted on Facebook - Texas High School Bass Association. The tournament will begin around 3 p.m. at Waterfront Marina. Spectators are welcomed to attend to cheer on their team.
