Volleyball squad rallies to beat Cisco
It was a solid start to the campaign for the Lee College Lady Rebels volleyball team Friday at Vernon College.
Playing at the school’s classic, the Lady Rebels opened the season with a sweep of two matches, beating the hosts 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-10) before holding on in five sets (25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 25-16, 16-14) to beat Cisco College.
“I thought we started off well with our win against Vernon and set the tone for the day,” Lee College head coach Danielle Essix said. “Kennidee Willis led us with 11 kills.
We won the match and I thought we did a really good job serving and keeping Vernon out of system. We served and passed extremely well.”
Essix said her squad battled hard against Cisco and the more disciplined team came out on top.
“Cisco was such an intense game and I’m so proud of the girls for their toughness and willingness to fight through adversity and win,” Essix said. “Although we won the first set, we had a lot of errors. You can see the girls becoming more comfortable and that’s exciting.”
Willis led Lee College with 20 kills, Jessica Hardin and Kim Coffee both had 11 kills and Jana Wiesel added six kills.
Lee wrapped the weekend Saturday at the classic. The Lady Rebels return to action Friday at the Pensacola State College Tournament in Pensacola, Florida.
