The Sterling baseball team continued its hot start to the season with a 6-0 win over Dayton and a 14-0 rout of Spring Westfield at the Alief Tournament.

Sterling’s (4-1) Jacob Verdin pitched four innings, giving up four hits in the win over Dayton while  Dalton Mullins and Jaden Valencia each had two RBI.

Steven Montmayor and Valencia split mound work against Westfield while Marcus Garza homered and Jaydon Wright and Blake Butler had four and three RBI.

Sterling closed out the weekend with a 7-0 loss to Kempner. 

Patriots wrap with win

Goose Creek Memorial beat Northbrook 5-1 at Spring Woods High School and moved to a 3-5 record.

“I saw positive flashes of potential,” GCM head coach Brian Williams said.

REL sees strong pitching

Zach Bogle pitching a “brilliant” game according to REL head coach David Schmidt Saturday in a 4-3 loss to Alief Taylor.

The Ganders are 2-3 and have already bettered last year’s win total.

Barbers Hill splits

The Eagles were 4-1 after Friday’s 13-1 win over Manvel which followed a 9-4 defeat against Brazoswood.
