After an early deficit, the Goose Creek Memorial football team battled back before dropping a 20-12 decision at Port Arthur Memorial Thursday night in District 9-5A I action.

GCM (2-3, 1-1) found itself down 13-0 early in the second quarter and 20-2 at halftime against the host Titans (3-2, 2-0).

A Josiah Rice sack in the PAM endzone provided the Patriots with their lone points of the first 24 minutes.

After the intermission, GCM found its mojo and behind a 23-yard field goal by Luis Acosta and a Dylan Pitre five-yard touchdown run helped the Patriots creep to within 20-12 heading into the final quarter.

GCM stopped PAM deep in Patriots territory and Bryce Johnston’s fumble recovery kept the squad’s hopes alive.

The Patriots’ last drive to tie the game was stopped inside Titans territory to seal PAM’s win.
