Summer status report: Barbers Hill boys basketball
It has been a good start to the summer Barbers Hill boys basketball program.
This week, head coach Chris Pennington held his camp for youths from grade to middle school and the returns have been outstanding.
Pennington reported that there have been 245 campers enrolled and participating over a group of incoming first graders through future Barbers Hill freshmen.
“It is the biggest ever camp in Barbers Hill,” Pennington said.
The camp is one Pennington hopes to teach potential future Eagles how to play the game the right way while never compromising the whole purpose of going to a summer sports event such as this.
“We always focus on fundamentals and building a love of the game in the younger grades,” Pennington said. “We want our campers to learn while having fun.”
With a number of future freshmen on hand and having just watched a highly successful Class of 2019 leave after meeting Pennington four years earlier as a group of determined ninth-graders, is the coach seeing any similarities with the future Barbers Hill newbies?
“We are very excited about every class coming up, but finding 11 kids that can contribute at the varsity level in one class will be hard to replicate,” Pennington said.
