BEAUMONT — The East used an 82-yard touchdown pass from Nederland’s Blaysin Fernandez to Jalen Davis of Silsbee with 7:08 remaining in the game to clinch a 17-7 win over the West team on Saturday night at Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium in the SETCA All-Star Game.

The first points of the game came a minute into the second quarter as Beaumont Kelly’s Philip Leano of the East side booted a 55-yard field goal to make it a 3-0 game. On the in suing kickoff, Trey Driver of GCM returned the kickoff 28 yards to the 33-yard line. The West then moved down to the five yard line before an interception by Teshaun Teel of West Orange-Stark put an end to the drive.

Late in the first half, the East added to their lead as Fernandez hooked up with Jose Ceja of Port Neches-Groves on a 26-yard score to make it a 10-0 halftime lead.

The West then closed the gap on the first drive of the second half as Liberty’s J.J. Slack capped a long drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Kordell David of East Chambers to make it a 10-7 game with 8:06 left in the third quarter. Marcus Pescador of Anahuac booted the PAT kick.

Early in the fourth quarter, the West had a chance to tie the score but a 35-yard field goal attempt by Pescador went wide left to keep the East in front. Two-plays later it was the Fernandez to David scoring play that put the game out of reach and gave the East side a win.

Jacorian Colbert of Lee had several passes broken up and was in on four tackles. Anthony Fatal of GCM had three tackles for the West while Vernon Hatfield of Crosby had a couple of carries on offense and two passes broken up.
