Plays elimination game at 10 a.m.
In the end, a 13-hit barrage backed by 19 stolen bases wasn’t enough for the Baytown Baseball Association PONY team at the quarterfinals of the PONY 14 South Zone double-elimination tournament in Youngsville, Louisiana on Wednesday.
The Baytown squad saw 8-3 and 9-7 leads evaporate as Deanville, Texas scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on for a 19-13 win on the opening day of the tournament.
Baytown falls into the loser’s bracket in an elimination game 10 a.m. today against San Benito.
Clifford Gammel, Isaias Cuevas, Andrew Estrada and Alexander Wallace all had two hits each to pace the Baytown offense while only three RBI were recorded thanks in part to five errors.
Evan Holguin led Baytown’s attack on the bases with six of the team’s stolen sacks while Estrada added four and Gammel finished with three.
