Sterling opened district competition with a 25-19, 25-10, 25-13 win over Beaumont United Friday. Jasmine Moore and Brooke Benoit were named the players of the game for the Lady Rangers. Moore had 15 kills and Benoit had 15 assists and six digs.

Bailee St. Romain had seven kills and Kayle Jones turned in 18 digs. Alex Lee had a solid all-around game with 14 assists and 10 digs. Jazmine Morris finished with six kills. 

In earlier action, the JV won 25-12, 25-14. Makaylah Stevens was the JV Player of the Game. The freshman won 25-13, 25-7 with Caroline Wells and Megan Ondap earning players of the game.

GCM 3, Lee 0

The Goose Creek Memorial volleyball team opened district with a win and knocked off crosstown rival Lee in the process. The Lady Patriots came out strong in a 25-13, 25-16, 25-16 win. 

Marisa Flores led the Lady Ganders in digs with 13 and Gabi Lara earning eight kills. The GCM JV won 25-18, 25-10 and the Lee freshman won 24-16, 25-15, and 25-14. 

Barbers Hill 3, Alvin 0

The Lady Eagles stepped out of district play and picked up a win, knocking off Alvin 30-28, 29-27, 25-23. Emily Yates had 14 kills and Trinity Hennigan had 29 assists. Becca Downs finished with 27 digs and Macy Sumrall had six aces. Sarah Lankford also did well with five blocks.

The JV fell 26-24, 21-25, and 25-20 and the freshmen won 25-12, 25-9.
