The Robert E. Lee basketball teams suffered losses to District 22-5A rival Texas City Tuesday night.
The REL boys (5-15, 0-2) dropped a 49-35 decision in Baytown as Keke Davis and Ijenea Wooley led the Ganders with 12 and 11 points respectively.
“It was a solid defensive effort by our guys,” REL head coach Seth Due said. “We are still finding our identity as a full team. If we continue to have these defensive games I am confident the offense will fall into place.”
The Ganders trailed 22-21 before Texas City pulled away.
The REL girls fell to 8-5 overall and 0-3 in district play after a 54-43 defeat in Texas City.
Kim Duhon scored 17 points and Chloe Shelby chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Ganders.
AHS teams split
The Anahuac girls held off Kountze 37-31 in a district matchup Tuesday.
Ja’maya Kirkwood scored 13 points with many coming off of her defensive effort according to Panthers head coach Antoinette Brown.
Samaa Kingsberry added 11 points for Anahuac which is 1-3 in district play.
The boys dropped a 74-64 decision to Kountze despite 23 points from Zyon Clark.
The Panthers are now 11-8 overall and 1-1 in district competition.
