The Robert E. Lee and Goose Creek Memorial cross country teams headed to Pasadena Friday for the South Houston Goering Invitational and each squad came back to Baytown with results to build on.

The REL girls watched as Sarah Salinas (24:13) and Krystal Marquez (27:38) led the way while Emma Licerio (28:03) finished strong in her first varsity run.

“We performed well in our season opener,” REL girls coach Crystal Aguero said. “The ladies bested our season openers for the past five years, despite late summer injuries to two of our top runners. We will take the days results and continue to build on them in practice in 

BH tennis drops 14-5 decision against Summer Creek

Despite some strong performances from both his doubles and singles boy team members, REL tennis coach Brandon Funderburg saw his team tennis squad fall 14-5 at home against Summer Creek Friday.

Titus Batongmalaki/Evan Kerr won 8-3 at boys No. 1 doubles and Adrian Bruno/Michael Garcia won at No. 3 boys doubles, 7-4 in tiebreaker.

Batongmalaki swept to victory at No. 1 singles as did No. 5 singles player Jacob Sandoval while Garcia won in two sets as well at No. 6 singles.

REL travels to play GCM at 3:45 p.m.,Tuesday.
