The Baytown Little League 8-9-10 All Stars saw their hopes to advancing through the Texas District East Zone International championship bracket come to an end Thursday in Houston.
The team dropped a 15-11 decision to Dickinson at the NASA Area Little League fields and were dropped into the consolation bracket and a matchup with Hitchcock out of the West Zone at 6 p.m. Saturday in Santa Fe.
“It was actually a really good game; it was a nail biter,” team manager Brittney Irby said. “Both our pitchers – Rylan Irby and Fabian Castillo – did a good job. Our main catcher Gilbert Lamas found out (Thursday) morning that he has a fractured ankle, but our backup catcher Cameron Roth did a very good job and made a few outs at the plate. His throws to catch runners were very good. He was a beast.”
This was the first year Roth played organized baseball.
Baytown started sluggishly out of the gates for the second game in a row, trailing 5-2 after the first frame and 9-3 going into the third inning.
“They just wake up a little too late,” Brittney Irby “They didn’t wake up until the late second inning and early third inning.”
Baytown rallied with a seven-run fifth-inning to pull within 12-10, but Dickinson held on in the final at-bats.
Kaden Delgado, Ryan Charalampous, Landen Griffith, Rylan Irby and Alex Sanchez all had multiple-hit games for Baytown.
