The Lee tennis team notched a come from behind win against Galena Park Wednesday, edging the district rival 10-9. Titus Batongmalaki won the deciding match to give the Ganders in a win in a match where they had a line-up change because of an injury.
The match had been rescheduled to Wednesday because of rain but it was worth the wait for Lee. It did not start out that way however.
The Yellowjackets had their way with Lee in double action, taking a 5-2 lead. Riley O’Brien and Jackson Farnsworth won their match 8-0 and Kristian Garza and Adrian Bruno won 8-6. Evan Kerr and Batongmalaki dropped a close match 9-8.
In girls doubles, Johana Chavez and Deyse Leija fell 8-2 as did Kim Lor and Michelle Ortega. Kristin Spencer and Sydney Wade fell 8-4. The mixed doubles team of Grecia Aurelio and Michael Garcia were blanked 8-0.
The boys singles ran through the Galena Park lineup, winning all but one of the six matches. O’Brien cruised 6-4, 6-1 and Farnsworth won 6-4, 4-6, 11-9. Batongmalaki’s deciding match at No. 3 singles was a close one with the Gander claiming at 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win. Kerr won 7-6, 6-2 and Garza won 6-1, 6-2. Angel Palos came up short in the bid for a boys sweep, falling 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
The girls rallied to split in singles play. Aurelio won 6-2, 6-1. Chavez fell 6-1, 6-1 but Tyshawna Rivers picked the team up with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Wade fell 6-3, 6-3 and Spence won 6-3, 4-6, 12-10. Jenniffer Sanchez lost 6-2, 6-3.
