It was all about the best opportunity for his playing career and a chance to make a solid, economic choice that propelled Lane Homan’s decision where to play college baseball.
On Tuesday, the Goose Creek Memorial senior announced his intentions to play at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas, an NJCAA Division III program.
The Suns finished the 2019 campaign with a 31-21 record.
“It was a really more of a financial decision; it’s not a very expensive school,” Holman said. “They were one of the schools that gave me an opportunity. I had to take the chance to play baseball. I’ve wanted to play college baseball since junior high.
“I love the game. I had to at least try and find out if I could do it.”
Holman was recruited as a pitcher and an outfielder by the Suns but that may have changed.
“I am more than likely going to be pitching,” Homan said. “As the season progressed, they focused more on taking me in for pitching. This season, I felt was a very good growing season. My velocity went up and my control was awesome. I could see results in the hard work I have been putting in.
“It’s an opportunity to go and take my time and try to become a better player. I just want to take the opportunity give them the best I’ve got and see where it takes me.”
