A new coach at Anahuac High School takes over in hopes of building on the momentum the tennis program built a year ago.
Last spring, the Panthers finished fourth overall in both the boys and girls standings of District 21-3A.
Now new head coach Janet Tims leads the way and will have to do so without the help of graduated district champion Jennifer Lugo from the girls side as well as Zach Kelly and Casey Norris who also performed well in mixed doubles.
Yet, the Panthers won’t fret because there is plenty of weapons returning to the mix.
“We are young and rebuilding after losing some good seniors but we do have some hard working girls and boys who are prepping to have breakout seasons,” Anahuac athletic director Greg Neece said. “Our tennis teams are definitely a work in progress but we are all excited about the opportunity this tennis season brings..”
Anahuac can call on senior Tracy Ly on the girls side while she is joined by junior Brie Lino and sophomores Hannah Kelley and Hannah Kate Edwards.
Senior Christian Vargas will spearhead the Anahuac efforts.
The season begins Friday at the Beaumont West Brook tournament.
