Barbers Hill, Anahuac netters wrap tourney play
Gaining experience against top competition was essentially what Barbers Hill volleyball got at the Leander Rouse Tournament.
The Lady Eagles (8-12) went 1-7 overall against a field of Class 6A and ranked squads.
“We competed with great teams and got better every set but ended up on the bottom of the tournament,” Barbers Hill head coach Kristin Goodman said.
Barbers Hill lost three matches on day one against El Paso Coronado in three sets and dropped two 2-0 decisions against San Antonio Clark and Keller.
Friday in pool play, they wrapped up play with a 2-0 loss to Santa Fe – their second defeat to the Indians this season – Shadow Creek and Kingwood Park, both in two sets.
On Saturday, they wrapped up actions with a 2-0 (25-18, 25-21) win over Waller after dropping a two-set decision against Stratford.
Goodman noted the play of Jordan Burnett.
“She played multiple positions and came in clutch when we needed her to,” Goodman said.
AHS wraps in Splendora
The Lady Panthers (7-12) finished up play in the Splendora Tournament on Saturday with a 2-0 (25-18, 25-19) win over Spring Woods before falling 2-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-20) to Caney Woods and 2-0 against district rivals Buna 2-0 (25-23, 25-23).
Anahuac has almost doubled last year’s win total (four) in a third of the time.
“The team has come a long way from last year,” Anahuac head coach Laura Brandon said. “We have worked really hard to improve our mindset and focus on the little things that make a huge difference like hustle, focus and setting small goals for performance. I know the girls will continue to grow as volleyball players and mature as we get further into our season.”
