Momentum is focus for district champs
Just because the Barbers Hill football team has locked in a District 12-5A II title and a No. 1 seed in next week’s bi-district playoffs that doesn’t mean the Eagles and Tom Westerberg will take their feet of the collective pedals.
That’s why Barbers Hill (8-1, 6-0) will approach tonight’s contest against visiting Sante Fe (2-7, 1-5) as any other game: It’s all about maintaining momentum.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
“It’s the next game so our kids are going to be excited since it’s senior night,” Westerberg said. “It’s the last game of district so we want to finish up on a good note and build more momentum heading into the playoffs.
“We want to continue what we set off to do and that’s finish the district undefeated.”
Westerberg won his first district title in four seasons with the Eagles and is pleased with how it was reached.
“This group of seniors who were freshmen when a couple of us got here and we’ve been building over the years,” Westerberg said. “We had a good feeling about this team at the beginning of the season and we talked about doing something special. We are playing at a pretty good level. Hopefully this is the group that gets us to turn the corner and get the ball rolling.
Santa Fe will play well defensively and can get physical according to Westerberg.
“They also run some option to play some assignment option football and they do some different stuff in the kicking game,” Westerberg said.
