Police Beat for Nov. 19, 2009

Police chase

Baytown police helped out when Texas state troopers called for assistance during the pursuit of a suspect vehicle fleeing from them westbound on Interstate 10 from North Highway 146. The chase left the freeway around Garth Road and continued in to East Point subdivision. The suspect jumped out and fled on foot into a swampy area. Police had to use a taser to subdue the suspect when they caught up to him. The suspect is a Louisiana resident, police said.

Lots of pot

Police arrested a Baytown man about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after they stopped him for a traffic violation on North Alexander at Lafayette and subsequently found two pounds of marijuana in his possession, according to the police report.

Bad Behavior

• A ninth-grade student was arrested at Sterling High School Tuesday morning for possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

• Baytown special operations officers found almost a gram of crack cocaine when they served a search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of North Jones Street Tuesday. A male resident of that home was arrested and charged for possession of a controlled substance.

Thefts/

burglaries

• Police said the owner of a pickup truck left it unlocked while parked outside a residence in the 5000 block of Goose Creek from between just after midnight and 9 a.m. Tuesday and someone stole a loaded blue Taurus PT 22 handgun and $25 from the vehicle.

• Someone broke into a residence in the 3800 block of Cary Creek Monday and stolen $1,700 worth of electronic and computer equipment.

• Someone stole a stereo worth $400 from a vehicle that was burglarized while parked in the 400 block of East Texas about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.

• A wallet and a set of keys were stolen from a vehicle that was parked at a business in the 4500 block of Garth Road between 8:45 and 9 p.m. Tuesday.

-Consumable goods worth $14 were the only items reported stolen from a vehicle that was burglarized while parked at the shopping center in the 4600 block of Garth between 8-10 p.m. Tuesday.

44 offenses

Between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, Baytown Police wrote 44 offense reports and investigated incidents that included two burglaries of buildings; four vehicle burglaries; three criminal mischief cases; three disorderly conduct cases; two forgeries; four theft cases; and 11 miscellaneous cases.

Officers worked four traffic accidents. Related injuries were reported in only one of those accidents.
