re: “Why do you need an assault rifle?” Aug 14.
Frank Butcher asked the above question, but it is somewhat difficult to answer. By definition an assault rifle is a selective fire weapon with a detachable magazine. Selective fire means it can be fired one shell at a time or fully automatic. Now to the question, I think Mr. Butcher is referring to the semiautomatic rifles that are no different from other semiautomatic rifles except they are scary looking to some and hold more rounds than other semi’s. The answer is no I would not be willing to give it up, and I don’t even own one. As far as there not being a legitimate use for these rifles, another thing Mr. Butcher is not familiar with. Many people including my family members are diligently trying to help get the feral hog population in check and these extended magazines are very beneficial for this task.
The shootings that have stirred up the anti-gun crowd are really not the weapons fault but the deranged individual that misuses it.
I realize it is an uphill battle to try to get some to see that once the government starts picking and choosing what parts of the 2nd Amendment won’t be infringed then liberty is being lost and the Constitution is being bastardized.
Just as I respect your right to voice your opinion, no matter how much I disagree with you, you should respect other people’s rights and stop trying to take freedom from them.
