Marjorie (Margie) Walker Eastwood

Marjorie (Margie) Walker Eastwood passed away October 29, 2019. The funeral will be on  Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 4 p.m. at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521 followed by a visitation.  A private burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Houston will follow the next week.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Mark’s United Methodist Church, Sterling Municipal Library of Baytown, Rice University, Lee College, The Salvation Army, or the charity of one’s choice.

Marjorie (Margie) Walker Eastwood passed away on October 29, 2019 in Baytown, Texas at the age of 97.  Margie was born in Baptist Hospital in Houston on October 25, 1922 to Vivian Tillman and Carroll Preston Walker.  Following her education at Rice University, she lived the remainder of her life in Baytown.

She came to Baytown on July 5, 1943 to work in the Butyl Rubber Plant Laboratory of Humble Oil and Refining Company.  She and other lifelong friends at Humble during World War II personified Rosie the Riveter.  After working as a chemist in several labs over the years, she retired from the Exxon Research and Engineering Analytical Laboratory in 1984.

She and Harris Eastwood married on February 6, 1960 in St Mark’s Methodist Church of Baytown.  Margie and Harris were soul mates until his death in 2001.

Margie’s great joys were bridge, continuing education at Lee College, and her life with Harris.  Close friends included, among others, Cleon and Mary Easley and their children and grandchildren;  Buck and Mary (Sookie) Bonds and their children and grandchildren; Hermann and Nell Von Rosenberg; Niles and Maydell Brill of Waco; Jerri Geiger; Carl and Amy Currie; Percy and Margie LaFosse; some of whom are now deceased.  Margie loved and was loved by long-time caregivers Virginia and Tiffany.

Margie and Harris were lifelong members of St Marks United Methodist Church where they felt the peace and love of God, and the inspiration and kindness of church staff and members.

Margie is survived by her adopted niece Risa Smith.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harris Carter Eastwood, whose loving nature and calm wisdom always made her life better; by niece Doreen Eastwood of Baytown; parents Vivian and Carroll Walker; brother Preston Walker (all of Houston); grandmother Jennie Doyle Walker of Houston and Dyersburg, Tennessee; cousins Carroll Doyle Wheeler and Tom Moss of Memphis, Tennessee; her dear friends Virginia Harleston Woods of Palestine.
