Doris Wright Walmsley went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2020 in Carson City, Nevada. She was born on November 9, 1927 in LaPorte, Texas at the old Harris house to Reuben Wright and Leah Harris Wright. The family lived in LaPorte until moving to River Oaks in Houston, where she attended Lamar High School.

Doris attended college at both Sullens in Roanoke, Virginia and the University of Houston where she studied art. She met and married John (Jack) G. Walmsley of Baytown on March 31, 1951. They honeymooned in Acapulco, Mexico. They married quickly after a brief courtship because Jack was being called for redeployment with the Army Reserves.

They moved to Lakewood subdivision where a son John and daughter Karen were born. Doris and Jack were members of the “old” Trinity church in old Baytown, then helped start up a new Episcopal church named All Saints in the Lakewood area. Later they moved into a custom built home that Doris helped design in the Country Club Oaks subdivision.

Jack was transferred to the Exxon Refinery in Billings, Montana in 1970 and Doris loved spending time in her log cabin home in the nearby mountain town of Red Lodge, Montana. They moved back to Baytown in 1978 when Jack was again transferred by Exxon, and resumed attendance at the “new” Trinity Church.

In 2010 they moved to Sheridan, Wyoming to be close to their daughter and followed their daughter again when she moved to Nevada in 2013. Their son John also moved to Nevada to be closer to them in 2017. Doris and Jack lived at The Lodge assisted living facility in Carson City, Nevada. Jack preceded her in death on July 29th 2018.

Doris was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was fearless when it came to protecting her children, dashing into the yard to kill snakes and other vermin that threatened them.

She was a devout Christian, volunteering as a Sunday school teacher and spirituality was very important to her. She was a member of the Baytown Service League. Doris was creative and artistic with a flair for interior design and watercolor painting. She loved her relatives and enjoyed family gatherings.

She is survived by a son John Walmsley of Reno, Nevada; daughter Karen Walmsley of Minden, Nevada and granddaughter Katya Koepsel studying at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, and sister, Allene McCarthy of Seabrook, Texas.
