Evading

Police went to a home in the 1900 block of Ontario Avenue about 11 p.m. to arrest 17-year-old Hunter Hammons on a felony warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

While officers were at the front door speaking to Hammons’ mother, Hammons tried to leave through the back door, only to find other officers waiting for him there.

He then reversed course and ran out of the front door but was quickly caught and detained.

A charge of evading on foot was added to the original charge.

Woman injured

A 27-year-old woman was cited for assault following a disturbance in the 6300 block of Highway 146.

Police said the injured person, another 27-year-old woman, required treatment at the hospital for a cut to her face and swelling of her face after being struck. Additional charges may be filed.

Stabbing

A 58-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault of a family member after allegedly stabbing a woman--one of two cases over the weekend in which a victim’s son intervened on his mother’s behalf.

Police spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris said that Malvis Barnett and the woman had gotten into an argument at an apartment in the 1300 block of East James Street.

The argument turned violent and the man started assaulting the woman. When the two went inside, Dorris said, Barnett pinned the woman to the ground and stabbed her in the upper chest.

Her 19-year-old son tried to intervene and was cut in the arm.

Barnett then left in a vehicle, nearly hitting the son who had followed him outside.

Barnett, however, returned when police arrived and told police he had stabbed the woman. He had a minor cut to his chest and was arrested.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment and at last report was in stable condition, Dorris said.
