Leaders from Lee College, the Baytown community and several area school districts welcomed Lynda Villanueva, Lee College’s newly hired 10th president, during a reception Wednesday at the Clubhouse at Evergreen Park.

Mayor Brandon Capetillo welcomed her on behalf of the city. “We are very fortunate to have an institution like Lee College,” he said. He said the school had received many honors for excellence, and he looked forward to that continuing under Villanueva’s leadership.

Agustin Loredo III, president of the Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees, said, “As a school district we’re very excited to be working with her.”

The college is an integral part of IMPACT Early College High School and the Stuart Career and Technical High School, as well as dual-credit classes in the district.

Baytown City Council member Laura Alvarado said, “We have a really great working relationship already with both Goose Creek and Lee College.”

“We look to them to help us develop and mold not just in terms of education, but that’s our future workforce,” she said.

“We’re thrilled to have her on board.”

Villanueva said she was impressed with the support the community shows for Lee College.

“I have never seen a community that loves its college like this community loves Lee College,” she said.

“I am so completely struck by that affection and it has truly been reflected in the welcoming that has been extended to me.

“Everyone loves this community and loves this college and I am just so excited to serve the community and build upon the legacy that we already have,” she said.

Villanueva took over as the Lee College president at the beginning of January in place of Dr. Dennis Brown.
