Council is considering a name change for some Baytown streets to reduce confusion between them and street names used by the Greater Harris County 911 emergency network.

“These proposed street name corrections must have council resolution in order for Greater Harris County 911 to confirm the corrections were approved in the system,” said Assistant City Manager Kevin Troller. “The goal was to have one overall log that both agencies could use. This proposed list cleans up the areas where the GHC911 road log did not match Baytown. Technically, there are no new street names, just corrections to the file.”

The city staff has researched the origin of road names and verified them using historical records, according to a brief prepared by Edward Tomjack with the city’s information technology services.

Many of the street name changes involve prefix- and suffix-related alterations as well as clerical input errors.

One example is Cedar Bayou Road. The full name of the street in Baytown is “Cedar Bayou Road.” The full street name for the GHC911 is McKinney Road. So, the corrected name would become “Cedar Bayou Road.”
