Baytown might be getting its third Chick-fil-A restaurant.
There is a preliminary plan to construct a new Chick-fil-A at the corner of Interstate-10 and John Martin Road, across the highway from the popular Buc-ee’s, said Alice Jauregui, City of Baytown spokeswoman.
The estimated timeline for the new restaurant to open in the spring of 2021. Jauregui said other developments are planned for the area as well.
Baytown has two other Chick-fil-A restaurants. There is one at 5006 Garth Road and another at 8738 Highway 146 at Chambers Town Center. When the Chambers Town Center Chick-fil-A opened in July 2015, people set up tents and canopies in the parking lot, hoping to be first in line and earn a free meal for a year.
The new store is expected to be closed on Sundays, as are the rest of the Chick-fil-A restaurants. The restaurant’s founder, Truett Cathy, decided Chick-fil-A would be closed when he opened the first restaurant in 1946 in Hapeville, GA. Truett worked in restaurants seven days a week that were open 24 hours, so he felt it was important to set aside one day to rest, and the practice holds up today.
