Careers on Wheels at Dr. Antonio Bañuelos Elementary allowed students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade to explore various careers, thanks to volunteers who brought vehicles and set up booths in the parking lot.

Students visited with the City of Baytown Public Works; San Jacinto Towing and Collision; Game-On Premium Game Theater; Royal Carriages, Limousines and Charters; Baytown Police Department, Baytown Fire Department Station 7; Beacon Federal Credit Union and Radio One Houston, 97.9 The Box and Magic 102.1. Kouzan’s Creole Kitchen’s mobile kitchen accepted lunch orders from staff members, and the City of Baytown provided lunch from Kouzan’s for City employees.

Organized by Mitzi Oliver, Bañuelos counselor, the career day was informative and provided a few hours out in the sunshine for students and staff.

“Our kids really enjoyed it,” said Oliver. “College isn’t for everyone. I wanted our students to see that there are other options out there to allow them to make a good living.”

Oliver hopes to make Careers on Wheels an annual event at Bañuelos.
