Tuesday, Texas set a record for the number of COVID-19 deaths, with 60 in one day. Wednesday, that record was shattered by a one-day count of 98 deaths.

The state narrowly avoided hitting the 10,000 mark Wednesday on the number of new cases, with 9,979 reported. It had surpassed that number on Tuesday for the first time, joining New York and Florida as the only states to have that many reported in a single day.
