I remember when I was very young, my mother would laugh at my dad on election day. It infuriated him that she cast a ballot that would cancel his. He was a pipe hustler and member of the local 211 pipefitters union and was basically told by his union rep that he must vote Democratic in order to improve and stabilize wages for pipefitters and iron workers. My mother on the other hand started off as a receptionist with a high school diploma and became a fortune 500 corporate executive. 

My parents started off married at 18
