1 Time to convert hard earned money into some sweet threads and school supplies. The state’s annual sales tax holiday will begin Friday and run through Sunday. Most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks purchased in-store, online, by mail or phone will be exempt from the state’s typical 8.25% sales tax through midnight Sunday. 2 Bargain hunters are officially put on notice. St. John’s Catholic Rummage Sale will start today and run through Saturday. Sales will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. The sale, put on by the Ladies of St. John will feature clothes, toys, dishes and furniture. The rummage sale takes place every August in the church activity center located at 800 West Baker Road.
3 Sik Kutz will offer 200 free haircuts to the first 100 that show up at a back to school event Sunday. The event will start at 10 a.m. and conclude with the 100th hair cut. Students entering kindergarten through senior year are eligible. Haircuts will be dished out to walk-ins only. Sik Kutz Barbershop is located at 123 W. Gulf Ave.
4 The Baytown Community Garage Sale will return to Town Square this weekend with loads of bargains. The monthly event will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Town Square is located at 213 W. Texas Ave.
5 Time is running out on summer and its time to make some last-minute memories before school. Lessons on making a sandcastle will be available at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at Stewart Beach in Galveston. Limited equipment is available but participants should consider bringing their own sand buckets and shovels. Lessons, along with a demonstration at 9 a.m. are free to the public. Stewart Beach is available at 201 Seawall Boulevard.
