A Highlands woman and a Laredo man died in a traffic accident at the intersection of Highway 99 and Tri City Beach Road about 3:20 p.m. Sunday.

Baytown police Lieutenant Steve Dorris said the two people who died were identified as Celina Godinez, 68, of Highlands and Luis Godinez, 43, of Laredo.

Dorris said both were in a black Ford Fusion along with four other people. Those four people were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Dorris said he did not know their conditions, but none appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

He said the Ford Fusion, driven by a 26-year-old Highlands man was travelling north on Tri City Beach Road.

A gray Ford F250, driven by a 32-year-old Anahuac woman, was travelling east on Highway 99 when the two entered the intersection at the same time. The F250 struck the Fusion on the driver side, Dorris said.

The F250 rolled at least once before coming to rest upright. Its driver was the only occupant. She was taken to Bayshore Hospital for treatment.

The Fusion struck a utility pole before coming to rest.

Dorris said that neither driver showed signs of being impaired, but blood tests are being run as part of the investigation.

No charges or citations were reported immediately.

The accident is being investigated by the Baytown Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team and the Harris County District Attorney’s Vehicular Assault Team.
