A passerby apparently interrupted an assault in progress in the area of Tri City Beach Road and Highway 99 about 1 a.m. Friday.

A man called police and said he saw a woman standing outside of a car. Another man got out of the car and pulled her hair and threw her to the ground. The passerby got out of his car and separated the two, at which time the assailant flagged down a passing car and left the area.

The woman told police she was driving when she and her boyfriend, who was in the car with her, got into an argument. The boyfriend threw a drink at her, at which time she stopped the car and got out—which is when the passerby entered the picture.

Baytown police spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris said the boyfriend was charged with Class C assault.
