Chambers County Sheriff Deputy Jordan Kalis and Corporal Kendall Blanchard pose with some of the 43 pounds of methamphetamine found hidden in a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 10.

Two 18-wheeler occupants who called Chambers County Sheriff’s Office deputies to report a theft ended up being arrested for drug possession.

Chambers County Sheriff Brian C. Hawthorne said his deputies made the bust after they were called to a rest stop on Interstate 10 to investigate a theft from an 18-wheeler.

“The drivers said they thought someone stole something from them,” Hawthorne said. “Upon responding, deputies located a tractor-trailer rig that was missing some tires on the rear of the trailer. Further investigation revealed approximately 43 pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of nearly $2 million, hidden in compartments on the trailer.”

Deputies arrested Dan Roba, 48, of Northbrook, Illinois and Bianca Roba, 45, of Hollandale Beach, Florida. Hawthorne said he is not sure if the two are married or if they are related.

Both of the suspects have been booked into the Chambers County Jail for possession of a controlled substance penalty group one, a first-degree felony.

No hearings for the Robas have been scheduled.
