Amira Lewis of Baytown has been chosen as an All-American Cheerleader at the 2019-20 Universal Cheerleaders Association cheer camp in Galveston.

She will represent Highlands Junior School in the Orlando Disney Thanksgiving Day Parade that will take place 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The parade will not be televised.

Lewis is on Team Minnie Mouse, one of dozens of teams separated by state representation. She qualified for the event

“I am really excited to be doing this since it’s an honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Lewis said. “When I found out, I posted a picture on Instagram and Snapchat saying I made it for Highlands and my friends were really excited. I called my mom and dad and we were all super excited and we couldn’t wait.

“I love Disney. It’s so fun to me and I love the movies, especially ‘Toy Story’ and all the cartoons. It’s a dream come true since I always wanted to come back. I was here for a cheer competition in 2014. This time I get to go to the parks and meet people and have fun.”

Lewis, an eighth-grader, is a second-year cheerleader for the Highlands Junior squad.
