A 30-year-old Baytown man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg after a Thursday morning verbal altercation turned violent, according to Baytown police.

Police did not release the name of the victim or suspect in the incident that took place at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Massey Tompkins Road about 9 a.m.

Baytown police spokesman said the suspected shooter is 24 years old. When police were called to the scene, the two men were reported to be brothers-in-law.

The shooting victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was listed in stable condition, Kelly said.

Kelly said the victim was not cooperative with police when questioned.

When police were called to the scene, the shooter was reported to be a family member of the victim.

Police searched the area around the location of the shooting and also looked for a vehicle a witness reported leaving the area right after the shooting.

They also went to the home of another family member in the 1000 block of Northwood Drive, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Kelly said department  investigation is ongoing in the matter.

No arrest or charges were reported by Thursday afternoon.
