In a continuing effort to promote positive dialog in the wake of the fatal shooting of an African American woman by a Baytown police officer in May, the Mayor’s Community Engagement Advisory Committee will host an event titled “The Law and Your Community” from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market Street.

Unlike the previous two community meetings which have offered the opportunity for participants to ask questions of police and community leaders, this event provides training through an interactive presentation to develop, strengthen and revitalize community and law enforcement relations.

It is presented by an organization called NOBLE, which is the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.

Facilitators will provide lessons on enhanced communication tools and interactive skills for better law enforcement engagement outcomes.

NOBLE describes its mission as being to ensure equity in the administration of justice in the provision of public service to all communities, and to serve as the conscience of law enforcement by being committed to justice by action.

The event is free and open to the public.
