While many were celebrating the arrival of 2020 with fireworks, and a few other party favors, Erminda Orlinda Ramirez Lopez was in the hospital about to give birth to her child.

At 11:50 a.m., New Year’s Day, Lopez gave birth to the first child to be born in Baytown for 2020.

Weighing in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces, Santos Dylan Ramos Ramirez was born. He was born at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital.

Speaking through an interpreter, Lopez expressed her happiness over the birth of her son.

“I was surprised and very happy to hear that my baby is the first to be born in Baytown this year,” Lopez said. “We are filled with much happiness and joy.”

Baby Ramirez is not alone in his achievement of being one of the first babies born for 2020. An estimated 392,078 babies were born around the world on New Year’s Day 2020, according to UNICEF.

The hospital was also delighted to welcome Baby Ramirez into the world in 2020.

“Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital extends a warm welcome to the first baby born at the hospital in 2020,” said Rod Evans, a hospital spokesman.
