The City Council of Beach City extended Mayor Jackey Lasater’s disaster declaration, which he issued March 17 in response to the COVID-19 health emergency.  Lasater said that Beach City has an agreement with Chambers County to share the county’s emergency management coordinator and that the city’s declaration follows the same rules as set forth by the county.

Under state law, a mayor’s disaster declaration can only be effective for seven days without being extended by council, and the council took that action.
