Baytown police arrested 18-year-old Ellery Frank Jackson in the Sunday morning shooting death of 20-year-old Mickell Rhodes Sunday.
The shooting took place shortly before 2 a.m.
At about 1:49 a.m. Sunday, Baytown police responded to a shooting at the Briarwood Apartments in the 1700 block of James Bowie.
There, officers found 20-year-old Mickell Rhodes lying on the ground in a breezeway with multiple gunshot wounds. Rhodes was airlifted to Houston Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died.
Baytown police spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris said that detectives learned that Rhodes was with two other men at the complex, including Jackson. The three men were walking to another friend's apartment when Rhodes and Jackson got into an argument over a handgun that Jackson was in possession of.
During that argument, Jackson pulled the gun and shot Rhodes multiple times before fleeing the scene, Dorris said.
Murder charges were accepted by the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
Shortly after noon, Baytown detectives and deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office located Jackson at an apartment in the 5300 block of Aldine Bender Road in Houston where he was taken into custody without incident, Dorris said.
Jackson was booked into the Baytown City Jail Sunday afternoon on a murder charge, according to jail records.
