Four Barbers Hill High School graduates each received $500 scholarships thanks to money raised by Old River-Winfree Founders Day.

The annual event is held the second Saturday each October, and money raised in 2018 went to the scholarships and a $10,000 contribution to the Fisher Houses of Houston, which provide free temporary lodging for family members of  the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

The four seniors awarded scholarships were Keilan Andrus, Kylie Herndon, Lanie Kinder and Dormea Robinson.

The annual event celebrates the heritage of the small community and raises money.

Major sponsors include Barbers Hill  Bank, Targa, Carnes Engineering, State Representative Mayes Middleton, Assistant District Attorney Dane Listi, City of Old River-Winfree, Chambers County Commissioners Court, Chambers County Historical Commission and Old River-Winfree Economic Development Corporation.
