You cannot attend tonight’s Baytown council meeting which is restricted due to social-distancing requirements, but there is still a way for you to participate.

The COVID-19 crisis has resulted in social distancing measures being implemented, meaning the public is not allowed to attend meetings for now. The City of Baytown still values public participation, so officials have set up a communication method, so people can not only listen to the meeting, but they can also interact as well. The meeting is at 6:30 tonight.

To attend the council meeting through videoconference, visit www.zoom.com. Click on the “join a meeting” link, located on the top right-hand corner. Input the Meeting ID: 894 821 858.

To attend using the phone, call 1-888-788-0099. Use the same meeting ID: 894 821 858.

Speakers can still participate in council meetings. To speak on any agenda item, submit a request by emailing cityclerk@baytown.org. Include your name, address, and phone number that is being used if you teleconference and the agenda item number. The request must be received prior to the posted time of the meeting.

For more information or questions concerning the teleconference, please contact the Office of the City Clerk at 281-420-6504.

Some of the items on the agenda include an ordinance authorizing work authorization with Public Management, Inc. for the Bayland Marina Maintenance Dredging Project for $35,000. There is also an item to approve paying Winstead PC $150,000 for legal services in connection with the Bayland Island hotel/convention center project.

Council is also considering suspending a proposed gas utility rate increase by CenterPoint Energy. On March 5, CenterPoint filed for the increase under the Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program. It would result in a $.67 or a 3.51% increase for residents, a $.98 or a 3.51% increase for small businesses and $22.99 or 5.64% for large businesses. The city has the right to exercise due diligence with rate increases, so they suspended it until June 18 to evaluate whether the data and calculations are correct.

Council is receiving the City of Baytown’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Single Audit Report for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 and the City of Baytown’s Quarterly Financial Report and Investment Report for the Quarter ding Dec. 31.
