Baytown resident David Lavigne, 59, was fatally shot when he answered the door of his apartment in the 4600 block of Quail Hollow Drive about 11:50 p.m. Monday.
Baytown police spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris said Lavigne was flown to a Houston hospital, but died of his injuries there.
Police are looking for the public’s assistance in the case and have not yet named any suspects or suggested a motive.
This marks the third homicide of the year in Baytown.
Baytown resident Emilio Aguilar, 29, was killed during a robbery Aug. 24. Three men were charged with capital murder a few days later: Henry Carr Jr., 51; Stephen Swancie Martin, 38; and Gregory Ryan Maze, 29.
Just three weeks later, 20-year-old Mickell Rhodes was killed during an argument on Sept. 15. Ellery Frank Jackson, 18, was arrested the same day and charged with murder.
The three murders reported in Baytown in 2019 equals the number reported in 2018.
