I truly believe that the happiest people in the world should be God’s people. God has called us through the great commission of Mark 16:15-16, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be condemned.”

God wants His children to be happy and desires for them to be a witness to the world of God’s saving grace and His love. Think about it: Why would anyone want to follow someone who wasn’t happy? I believe that Jesus was happy throughout His ministry and according to Acts 10:38, the scriptures declare, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” I believe Jesus went about making others happy as He healed them and liberated them from Satan’s snare.

At least three times Jesus declared to His disciples, “Be of Good cheer.” The word cheer means to be glad, make happy and be full of encouragement and comfort. Every time Jesus made that explosive statement, He also added why His followers should be happy. Listen to these three reasons why you as God’s child should be overwhelmed with gladness.

The first reason is found in Matthew 9:2. Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven.” Only through forgiveness of our sins by the blood of Jesus can we be in right standing with God. Now shout with good cheer, “I am forgiven!”

The second reason is found in John 16:33. Jesus said, “Be of good cheer I have overcome the world.” Jesus came to overcome the devil and He did. Now, we can also be overcomers in this world. I John 5:4-5 states, “For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” Now shout with good cheer, “I am an overcomer!”

Lastly, Mark 6:50, Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, It is I; be not afraid.” Hallelujah! Jesus is with us and we do not need to be fearful. Jesus has called us to a life of forgiveness, a life of victory and a life of love. Love is the absence of fear.  Now shout with a good cheer, “I am not afraid!”

Remember, today, tomorrow and forever God desires for you to be blessed, happy and prosperous.  Above all, be of good cheer!

This Sunday morning, we invite you to Church on the Rock at 7123 Decker Drive to hear evangelist Phillip Baker. Service time begins at 10:30 a.m. Special prayer for the sick will be offered. Come and be blessed! Come and be healed. Come and something good is going to happen to you.
