Meekins

Tommy Meekins

I’m writing this parchment of writ on the eve of my 71st birthday.  Being 71 years old and being in the ministry for almost 42 years, for sure I just might have learned a few important things about life.

My calling in life is to seek the wisdom of God and, as best as I can, I write down that wisdom and share the knowledge of God with others.

My other most important calling is the gift of music and songwriting.  I write the songs the Lord gives me and, the best that I know how, I publish the music so others may hear and hopefully be blessed.  I am excited about the fact that people are now recording my songs in Africa and India.

My God-given message that I am sharing today is a message of great priority as we begin the new year.  The instructions that I’m passing on to you are actually the code of life I live by. These instructions I have put into practice for 4 decades. The Lord has truly blessed me then and now, and He will continue to bless me as I stay true to His Word.

Lend an ear and listen closely to the message of “Keeping First Things First.”

The foremost companion in your life should be the Lord Jesus Christ.  Romans 5:8 declares that Jesus has given his life for us.  Proverbs 18:24 states that He is a companion who is closer than a brother.  Jesus is our closest companion and gives us victory to live an overcoming life.

The most important Christian book in your life should be the Holy Bible.  The Bible was written for our instruction in righteousness.

One of my favorite scriptures is Joshua 1:8 that declares, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shall have good success.”

In other words, we must hear His word, obey His word and follow His word with great faithfulness toward God.

Another foremost thing a Christian should continue to practice is on the first day of the week go to church and give to God. The first day of the week is the day to honor God with your family by your side.  It is the day to honor the Lord in your giving of tithes and offerings.  Many people want to go to heaven and be with the Lord; but the Lord says, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I will come.”  I don’t go to church because I am the pastor, I go to church because I am part of the family of God.

In conclusion, we should keep the commitment to be a soul winner. The Bible says, “To win souls is wise.” Matthew 28: 18-20 shares Jesus’ last message to His disciples: “All power is given unto me in heaven and earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.” Jesus’ last words have never changed. He still requires that those that know Him as their Savior should go into the world and make Him known.

In the year 2018, I pray that these divine instructions remain a major part of our New Year. Remember, Heaven smiles when we are keeping first things first.
