Veterans, Lee College students win national scholarships

Posted: Thursday, March 1, 2012 12:00 am

Recently local veterans and Lee College students Ricky Posey and James Appleman were awarded $2,000 scholarships by Grainger, a local distributor of facilities maintenance supplies supporting Baytown and greater Houston for more than 50 years.

Since 2006, Grainger and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) have worked together to provide more students access to skilled trades jobs and technical education. Grainger’s Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship program is designed to help students in the industrial skilled trades’ curriculum who have demonstrated drive, commitment and leadership realize their educational and career goals. The program awards outstanding students at selected AACC member colleges across the country with a scholarship and, upon graduation, a customized Westward toolkit.
